Master Batch Oils #12 for soap

The Plan & Reality:
I continued with my preferred soaping recipe of at least 60% hard oils. Coconut & Palm (or Tallow or Lard) are in that category, as well as all butters (even though some are harder than others). I like using 25% Coconut oil and 25% Palm – a mix of Palm Kernel Flakes & Palm oil. (Since I no longer have an excess of Palm Kernel Flakes, I backed off the amount of them from 8% to my usual 5%.)

In the past I used 10% butters, but went crazy this time and bumped them up to 15%, as I planned to make Holiday soaps with this batch and wanted them extra luxurious. So I went with 5% each of of Cocoa, Mango, and Shea butters.

I always like to include 5% Castor oil for lather (above 5% seems to cause acceleration).

I recommend you use your favorites for the rest of the oils. I have a variety of oils that have some wonderful skin loving properties and like to use a little of each.

For this batch, I again used 10% Sunflower Seed Oil, as it’s such a healing oil. I bumped the Olive Oil back up to 5%, as I have resupplied it. And I switched out the Hazelnut oil to Grape Seed Oil – wanting to get away from any issues with nut allergies. (I’m not sure I will stay with the Grape Seed Oil after using up the 7 lbs I bought, as this brand is very green – I will see how it affects the colors in my soaping. Although at only 5%, I am hopeful that it will not be a problem.)

Oil Recipe: 600 oz oils/37.5 lb (makes 880 oz/ 55 lbs of soap):
5%    Apricot Kernel Oil               30 oz      850 grams
5%    Avocado Oil                          30 oz      850 grams
5%    Castor Oil                              30 oz      850 grams
5%    Cocoa Butter (Golden)        30 oz      850 grams
25%  Coconut Oil (92 degree)   150 oz    4252 grams
5%    Grape Seed Oil                     30 oz       850 grams
5%    Mango Butter                       30 oz       850 grams
5%    Olive Oil                                30 oz       850 grams
5%    Palm Kernel Flakes             30 oz       850 grams
15%  Palm Oil                                 90 oz    2552 grams
5%    Rice Bran Oil                         30 oz      850 grams
5%    Shea Butter (refined)           30 oz      850 grams
10%  Sunflower Seed Oil              60 oz    1700 grams

Total oils: 600 oz/ 17,006 grams

I melt all of these in containers in a microwave oven, then mix them together in a huge bucket and divide into five 1 gallon jugs and put in a refrigerator and/or freezer until I’m ready to use them (this slows down or stops the aging of the oils.)

After measuring & heating the oils & butters, they all go into a bucket and are stirred thoroughly to blend together

I entered this recipe into a Lye Calculator (I used Bramble Berry’s (found here) at my usual 5% Super Fat and then resized the batch two dozen times to get different batch sizes. (I also adjusted the super fat on some for facial soap.) I then copied those down, with calculations included for the additives – here are some examples:
